Neighbourhood Defibrillators Project
Timed to coincide with World Restart a Heart Day on 16 October 2025, the Rotary Club of Leighton Linslade launched its Neighbourhood Defibrillators Project — an initiative designed to help local communities, in and around Leighton Buzzard, to have faster access to lifesaving equipment and give them the confidence to use it if a family member or neighbour has a cardiac arrest, in other words, their heart stops beating.
HELP SAVE LIVES
Chris Roberts, President of Leighton Linslade Rotary, explains:
“Every minute counts when someone suffers a cardiac arrest. Around 80% of these happen at home, and currently only 1 in 10 people survive. But if CPR and a defibrillator are used within the first 3–5 minutes, survival chances rise dramatically. Our goal is to empower local neighbourhoods with the knowledge and confidence to act… and to save lives!
Oh, and please remember, it’s not only ‘old folk’ who suffer cardiac arrests. UK statistics show that a significant number of people under 35 suffer from them and also pass away when a defibrillator is not used in time. So let’s act now.”
WE CAN HELP YOU START YOUR OWN NEIGHBOURHOOD DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP
Our help includes:
- A Presentation including typical purchase and maintenance costs and procedures
- An introduction to 3 example Defibrillator suppliers
- Free CPR and Defibrillator training for your new Neighbourhood Group
- Help with your fundraising (Rotary will facilitate but not directly fund equipment).
- A ‘Question and Answer’ session to help you get as much as possible out of the event.

Please note that these are not ‘training events’ although there will be a demonstration regarding the use of a defibrillator and the giving of CPR. However if you proceed to set up a neighbourhood group and are accepted into our scheme, we will endeavour to arrange free training for an agreed number of group members.
